We’ve been receiving a lot of inquires about the Oregon Tuna fishing season this year. Water temperatures are still a little cold for catching Tuna, but this could change very quickly…tomorrow…or even into the middle of July. Bottom line, Tuna will be running soon.

Sign up for tuna fishing notification through our newsletter. Make sure that you select all of the categories of news that you wish to receive.

How Do We Know When to Start Fishing?

We can travel up to 100 miles off the coast to fish for Tuna. Tuna are caught in warmer water usually between 52 – 62 degrees F. We are actively monitoring Terrafin chart’s (example above) and when the temperature is right, it’s a good time to start fishing for Tuna. Very generally speaking the colder water is more conducive to larger fish in less density. When you start catching large Tuna you know that you are on the outside of larger schools in the warmer water.

Update: Halibut days added: June 17th-19th!

The Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife has released the 2010 Oregon Halibut fishing season dates. Submit a Halibut fishing trip date request now in order to reserve your seat(s).

During the Friday, February 12th meeting in Salem, OR. The commission has determined that:

Oregon Halibut fishing inside 40 fathoms: May 1st 2010-October 31st (or until the 12,284 lb quota is met).

Spring All Depth Oregon Halibut Fishing Season: May 13-15th – May 20-22nd – June 3-5th (or until 105,948 lb quota is met.)

Fall All Depth Halibut Fishing Season: Aug. 6-7th, 20-21st – Sep. 3-4th, 17-18th – Oct. 1-2nd, 15-16th, 29-30th (or until 141,265 lb quota met)

In addition to the Spring all depth season dates extra back-up dates of June 17-19, July 1-3, July 15-17, and July 29-31 may be available if the quota has not been met after June 5th.

The catch limit for Halibut is one fish/day with an annual limit of 6 fish.

The 2010 Oregon Halibut Fishing quota has been reduced by 15% over last year. Trips fill up fast, and the seasons will end once the catch quota has been met. Reserve your seat now by submitting a trip request or giving us a call.

More Information About Annual Halibut Quotas

Pacific halibut landed at a port (like our port in Yaquina Bay) will count toward the quota for the subarea in which that port is located. Once the quota is met for the particular Halibut Fishing season, the season will come to an end.

When you take the total quota catch reduction into account, it’s easy to understand why it’s a good idea to get fishing as soon as possible. We offer two Halibut fishing trip types, both a 12 hour and 10 hour combo trip. The faster that you book your trip the better, our trips really do fill up fast.

UPDATE: Halibut Dates Released >> Read The Post Here

The Oregon Halibut fishing season dates are released annually by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. At this time we are expecting the dates for the Halibut season to be released in mid-March, hopefully sooner! There are a couple different ways to get notified when the dates are released. The easiest way is to keep up to date is to make sure you have signed up for our deep sea fishing newsletter or by checking this blog. We’re really excited about the upcoming Oregon Halibut fishing season and you can bet that it’s in our best interest to keep you up to date.

Last year the season opened on May 1st, the Halibut fishing was great. It was so good that the fisherman met quota pretty early. Make sure that you schedule your trips in advance, we want to make sure that you get a seat!

Once we know we’ll update our site to reflect the seasonal information. You can request a seat (or a group of seats) from the trip schedule request page.

While you’re waiting view the 2010 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations. Find requirements for licenses, limits, and more.
