This fishery is not for the faint of heart. If you’re not prepared for a heck of a fight, then it’s best you stay home by the fire. Halibut fishing is one of the most challenging sports around. You will be fishing in deep water offshore. Next to tuna fishing, this is one of the most exhilerating fisheries around.
We use heavy tackle. That is we use forty to sixty lb. test line on stiff rods and 4/0 or 6/0 reels. We are fishing from 70 to 150 fathoms of water and often we use 32 to 48 ozs. of lead to get to the bottom.
When fishing for halibut, you must be right on the bottom or close to the bottom. That is where the halibut reside, with a little effort and guidance from our crew, we’ll get you honed in.
And when you have a halibut on the line, you will know it! Course you may have trouble trying to figure out how in the world you’re going to pull that big baloka up?! But that’s what we are here for. We’ll harpoon the big ones and get them into the boat for you. You just gotta get them up to the surface.
Good luck!
