About 11 AM I got a call from the skipper of the Enterprise, one of our charter boats. They limited on all rock fish for the 20 people. Good job. Well they are turning out the lights so I better go. I may finish this later.

Dungeness CRAB MUFFINS

This recipe is like the potato chip commercial, [bet you can't eat just one.] I never have left overs when we have these, and it doesn’t matter how many we have made.

We use Dungeness crab but I am sure other kinds of crab will work as well.

The amount of crab meat you have will determine how many muffins you make.

1/2 lb crab meat (est. 1 large crab)

2 tblsp [ Best foods real mayonnaise.Very important for mayonnaise connoisseurs ]

Cheddar cheese, slices. [ I like Velveta cheese but my wife says that isn't even food; I still like it though.]

Tomato slices

English muffins

Pre- heat oven to low broil

Split muffins in half. Mix mayonnaise and crab meat. Spoon enough crab mix on the muffin half to completely cover it. Thickness depends on your needs. Put cheese on top of the crab and place muffins on a cookie sheet and put it in the oven until cheese is melted. Put thin sliced tomato on top of melted cheese. You can put it back in the oven to heat up the tomato, but that is if you like hot tomatoes. Let ‘em cool a little and enjoy.

Over time we have come to realize that preparing the fish that you catch is a topic that many people find valuable. In an effort to meet this need we are going to be including recipes for preparing your catch. Feel free to leave your comments below.

This recipe is real easy and quick. It works best with whole fish fillets. I like this one best with Salmon fillets, but Lingcod and halibut are equally as good.

1 can of cream of mushroom soup

equal amount of sour cream

lemon pepper, or Cajun season, or any other seasoning you prefer.

Cheddar cheese,[ shredded,] or any kind of cheese you think will work for you.

sauce pan about the size of a bread pan.

preheat oven to 350 degrees

Sprinkle the seasoning on the fillet to taste. Put the seasoned fillets in the pan. Thoroughly mix the cream of mushroom soup and the sour cream and spoon on enough to completely cover the fish. Place the pan in the oven for about 30 to 35 minutes for an average size fillet. Sprinkle on cheese and replace in oven until melted. Remove and let stand for 15 minutes or so. Serve with hot garlic bread.

I also like this one cold on the next day.

Well, after canceling our trips for the first two weeks of of February due to a very rough ocean, we finally had a few beautiful days last week end. The ocean was flat with very little wind and the fish were biting. Quite a few limits on Lings, [2 per person,] and some limits on the Rock Fish,[7 per person.] Everyone was catching fish. We had quite a variety of the Rock Fish with Cabazon, Kelp Greenling[ also called sea trout,] Vermilion Rock, China Rock, and the usual Black Rock and Blue Rock Fish. Everyone went home with some nice bags of fillets.

Crabbing on the other hand wasn’t quite as good. We did get a few dungeness crab but nothing to write home about. The beginning of the commercial crab season was the best it’s been in a long time but it has tapered off also. That’s normal in the crabbing end of things. I often hear people try to lay blame on things that are man caused but crabbing has always run in cycles, and it will definitely be picking up.

We have trips scheduled for the next few days so I hope the forecast is for no wind and flat oceans.

Come and go fishing with us.

Tuesday the 9th was a good day for catching fish. The morning started out cold and clear and the ocean was flat. It took about an hour from the dock to start fishing. The Ling cod were on the bite. Everyone caught their limit with a lot of releases. The rock fish were biting a little slower but with a good variety. A couple Cabazon, one Copper rock fish about 4 lbs, and a Vermilion rock fish about 3 lbs. Sea trout[kelp greenling,] china rock, and bass were average size. They were 4 short of a limit of rock fish. Everyone had a good time and are looking forward to going again.

We are having back to back storms this weekend and have to cancel our trips unless the weatherman is mistaken. We can only hope he is.

Good fishing to all.

The Oregon Halibut fishing season dates are released annually by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. At this time we are expecting the dates for the Halibut season to be released in mid-March, hopefully sooner! There are a couple different ways to get notified when the dates are released. The easiest way is to keep up to date is to make sure you have signed up for our deep sea fishing newsletter or by checking this blog. We’re really excited about the upcoming Oregon Halibut fishing season and you can bet that it’s in our best interest to keep you up to date.

Last year the season opened on May 1st, the Halibut fishing was great. It was so good that the fisherman met quota pretty early. Make sure that you schedule your trips in advance, we want to make sure that you get a seat!

Once we know we’ll update our site to reflect the seasonal information. You can request a seat (or a group of seats) from the trip schedule request page.

While you’re waiting view the 2010 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations. Find requirements for licenses, limits, and more.

Sunday’s fishing was real good. It was the catching that was difficult. A few small Lingcod had to be thrown back with three legal ones [ 22 in. or bigger] put in the basket along with a few rock fish. I think they averaged 2.6 fish per rod.

I have been fishing all of my life and I always have the classic fisherman’s quotes when the catching isn’t as good as I like it. “It’s a full moon, we’ve had back to back storms, too much bait fish so the fish aren’t hungry, you should have been here yesterday, etc, etc.” But, we do love to fish and we know the next time the catching will be better. Oh ya, did I mention the crabbing wasn’t good either.

We have another 5 hour trip going out tomorrow. The ocean is flat and they are calling for a little rain but that just makes for an exciting trip. [ I much prefer to fish in the rain instead of the wind.]

Until next time,
